About

REELABILITIES STREAM
ReelAbilities Stream is the first of its kind accessible streaming platform, featuring films celebrating the lives and stories of people with disabilities.

Thanks to a development grant from JPMorgan Chase’s Force for Good program, ReelAbilities Stream has been designed with accessibility in mind. All films include captions, audio description, and the site incorporates clear design and navigation, allowing disabled and non-disabled audiences to watch ReelAbilities films from the comfort of their homes.

OUR MISSION
ReelAbilities Film Festival is the largest festival in the U.S. dedicated to promoting awareness and appreciation of the lives, stories, and artistic expressions of people with disabilities.

Founded in New York in 2007 with the goal of promoting accessibility and inclusion, the festival presents award winning films by and about people with disabilities in multiple locations throughout each hosting city. Post-screening discussions and other engaging programs bring together the community to explore, discuss, embrace, and celebrate the diversity of our shared human experience, while providing accessible conditions to match the different needs of our multi-layered society.

ReelAbilities International
In 2012, other cities across the country followed New York’s footsteps by hosting ReelAbilities Film Festivals, starting with Cincinnati, Ohio. Since then, ReelAbilities events have been held in over 20 cities across the world, transitioning from ReelAbilities North America to ReelAbilities International. ReelAbilities events have expanded from the U.S. to Canada and Latin America, and occur in different variations including film festivals, year-round screenings, and special programming that transcends film. Since its inception, ReelAbilities has consistently received an increasing number of outstanding film submissions from around the globe.

The ReelAbilities International headquarters is located in New York City, expanding its screenings to schools, corporate offices, and organizations in communities throughout the year.

ReelAbilities offers a variety of programs, including ReelEducation, which offers free resources for teachers and educators to implement within their classroom.
